Position Overview:
CATCH is seeking an Assistant Interviewer & Interpreter to support the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) project by conducting interviews with foreign-born individuals in rural North Dakota. This role will focus on gathering qualitative data to understand social determinants of health, economic mobility, and community integration experiences.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct One-on-One Interviews: Assist in gathering personal narratives from foreign-born residents about their experiences with healthcare access, housing, employment, and overall well-being.
- Provide Interpretation Support: Facilitate communication in interviews by interpreting between English and the interviewee’s primary language.
- Ensure Culturally Competent Interviewing: Build trust with participants, ensuring they feel comfortable sharing their experiences.
- Transcribe and Translate Responses: Accurately document interviews, providing English translations where needed.
- Assist with Data Collection and Organization: Maintain detailed records of interviews, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.
- Collaborate with Research Team: Work alongside project leads to refine interview techniques, identify key themes, and contribute to research findings.
Qualifications:
- Fluency in English and at least one other language spoken by immigrant and refugee populations in North Dakota.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to conduct sensitive interviews.
- Experience in interpretation, research, or qualitative data collection preferred.
- Cultural competency and ability to work with diverse populations.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in handling personal data.
